Gallus recently hosted visitors to the the research and development center of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen in Wiesloch-Walldorf, Germany, for the first Gallus Digital Label Forum. Highlighting the event was a live demonstration of the DCS 340, the digital press unveiled in September at Gallus Innovation Days in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

During the Gallus Digital Label Forum, guests from over 50 countries around the world gained insight into the development labs for digital inkjet printing, which is typically off-limits to visitors. The tour focused on print head technology and the associated behavior of ink droplets during spraying and on the substrate.The new press has a resolution of 1,200 dpi and a print speed of 50 m/min.

Gallus customers also where the inkjet printing module of the Gallus DCS 340 is manufactured. An electronics production display took place at the packaging demo center.

After the tour, Jason Oliver, senior vice president of Digital Print at Heidelberg, explained how the purchasing patterns of consumers are already changing as a result of global digital networking. He also addressed the new challenges that these changes will bring about for the packaging industry and the associated opportunities for label and packaging printing , which are contingent on companies creating new markets.
